Are you still paranoid about governments around the world gaining access to your private information on your iPhone?

The FBI has been battling Apple to allow it access to the tech giant's devices, programatically through special back doors. Apple refuses on the grounds of privacy and it's principals of security.

In case you are wondering, this is all a result of the San Bernardino shooting in which the FBI acquired an iPhone that was password encrypted. The FBI has used this to justify their case.

So, can governments force companies to alter their products to allow their agencies to access private data? Certainly, in the shadow of a terrorist attack, it becomes a lot easier to sell to the American people, with the majority in favour of the FBI (albeit, a slim majority).

But the biggest problem with allowing the FBI access to devices, is that suddenly, there is potential access for people with nefarious intentions.

But the FBI has gone a step farther and purchased a hacking tool from a third party technology group that will unlock the phone for their investigations. This sounds pretty dangerous that the very thing Apple has been fighting the FBI on, is already in the FBI's hands. Sort of.

According to FBI director James Comey, it will only work a 'some' iPhones.

“The reason I keep saying 5C, iOS 9… this doesn’t work in sixes, doesn’t work in 5S and, so, we have a tool that works on a narrow slice of phones/ I can never be completely confident, but I’m pretty confident about that.” - FBI Director James Comey

So, now the litigation between Apple and the FBI is over, and the dust has settled, who really wins? And shouldn't what happens to our own private data be decided by us and not by the government and some large company?

It seems to be the sort of thing the democratic process is designed for, but for some reason is not being used.
Footage has come out from an incident involving a Google self-driving car side swiping a bus. The video footage is from the bus CCTV system and shows the accident. While this is not a major incident, it still raises questions about the practical application of self-drive cars in heavy traffic.

Our phones go through a lot. Some phones can stand up to beating and keep on working. Other phones, not so much. Check out this video as we put the Sony Xperia Z to the test!

Don't get caught out! So many customers come into our shop with very damaged phones, hoping to get their data off of the phone. The sad truth is, if the damage is severe enough, there may be no way of ever retrieving that data.

It's always best to use a backup service that automatically saves your photos. Here's a video of the boys talking about this. Enjoy!

If you have ever had an Apple device, at some point you will probably come across this particularly annoying bug. Every so often, the screen turns off and refuses to turn back on again.

If this happens to you, catch your breath, it's gonna be ok!

Check out the video below as the boys at Techrevive tell you about this problem and how to fix it!

Most of you know that we are a phone repair business. Well, we are just part of a larger group of businesses that operate out of the East Geelong Newsagency. On occasion, bad things can happen and unfortunately, the hot water service at the other end of the building burst (don't worry, nowhere near the repair lab). But we're not going to let that get us down, so here is the business owner Elaine to let us know everything is A-Okay!

There's a new feature on Google maps for iOS. Google map users now have the ability to add a 'pitstop' to their route. While Android users have had this ability for a while, on Apple devices, it was strangely absent.

Well this is the case no longer! Before this feature was available, users would have to plan a trip to their 'pitstop', like a petrol station or something, and then a new rout back to home effectively making two different routes, like a peasant. Now users can add an extra stop into their trip without messing the original route up. Nice!

It pretty easy to use too. While in navigations mode, tap the magnifying glass in the corner and a bunch of options will come up, including 'add a stop'. This will help streamline your whole trip, and any diversions you need to make.

You can even use the microphone to give voice commands to add pitstops. This great cause it means you're not getting all fiddly diddly with your phone while you're supposed to be concentrating on the road.
