iPad Repair and a Consumer's Choice

A lot of people crack their iPad screens. It's not really a difficult thing to do. Usually the impact is immediately followed by a colourful superlative, then clenched teeth and sucking air. Once composure is regained, thoughts will typically move to repairs. This is where your local repair shop comes in. A quick Google search will usually result in several locations offering the service. This can range from some dude's garage to fully fledged labs with all the required equipment.

But be warned! Not all iPad repairs are the same!

I have done a lot of iPad repairs. Literally in the hundreds. I am no stranger to the various qualities and attributes of replacement screens. The real difference in the quality of a repair comes from what adhesive is used for the repair.

If you have ever had your iPad repaired, most likely you've noticed that it doesn't quite feel the same. Granted there's not much to be done aesthetically for dented corners on the frame, but the screen itself just doesn't seem to fit right. You can usually press down on the screen close to the edges and feel it moving around, or you get a sound like it's sticking and un-sticking to the metal. This is because the adhesive that is mostly used for repairs is a cheap double sided tape, cut to fit the frame. But it was never designed to stick to glass and metal with the ferocity of the original adhesive Apple uses.

I am very well versed in this adhesive, having had used it on many repairs. Never feeling quite comfortable with the quality, I knew that there must be something better. That's when I discovered that Apple actually makes original adhesive kits for iPad repairs! This is known as OEM or "Original Equipment Manufacturer". OEM does infer that it's a third party selling the kits, but indeed made originally by Apple.

The first time I used this adhesive, I was shocked at how good the iPad not only looked, but felt after the repair. It felt brand new! I couldn't find any places where the screen appeared to lift or didn't have a less than perfect grip on the frame.

I was so pleased with this result that we stocked up heavily in the adhesive and discarded all of the substandard types. We use it in almost every repair that requires adhesive (of which there is a lot!) and have been exceptionally pleased (and so have our customers)!

We want nothing but the best for our customers and so we invest in better materials, and really take the time to get devices looking, feeling and operating as close to perfect as is possible.

And we succeed in doing so.
